Congratulations on being pregnant... not!
So I'm getting ready to go home, my wife called me and asked me to stop by a convenience store and get her some tea. (sure dear, see you in a bit)
I stopped at a gas station on my way, got in to get her tea, and as I'm walking out, a couple is walking in, the girl sort of tries to muffle her giggles as she says "that skirt is gross!" (my very nice military box pleated leatherneck kilt)
So, I turned around and told her "Congratulations on being pregnant", she stopped cold and told me that she was not pregnant, to which I smilingly replied "I know" as I kept walking towards my truck.
(she was, lets say... well fed?)
I mean, some people have no decorum... and plain need to be talked back to and put in their place.

Well, you certainly hit her hard.
Remember that she was derogatory about what you were wearing, while you insulted her person.
If she'd been equally sharp witted, I'm sure she could have come up with something on the order of, "I may be fat, but you're rude and I can diet!"
It's not fair to enter into combat with an unarmed person.
Be well,

Be well,
With respect, she was rude.
Two wrongs don't make a right?
Tough call.

A person's thoughts are their own and provided they stay that way, no harm is done. There does seem to be a trend these days, because of BeBo or FaceBook or Twitter, for people to 'speak their minds' and say the first thing that comes to them. They also have an unshakable belief that they are right in spite of all evidence to the contrary.
I have no sympathy for the girl. She opened the door marked 'Rudeness'; she must therefore expect others to walk through it with a different opinion. In essence is there any difference between a random verbal attack on a stranger and randomly shooting a total stranger. In essence - none. An attack is an attack, whether it be words or bullets. A person can't sit on their front porch and take pot-shots at people and not expect people to shoot back.
In the first instance, I treat all men as equals; all women as Ladies and all children as polite, intelligent beings. If any of these groups prove not to be as I originally envisaged, then I have to deal with a re-appraisal accordingly.
There is an old saying:
If you sow the wind, you will reap the whirlwind.

I probably would not have interpreted her remark as an insult.
That skirt is gross, means that skirt is very large, which is true of course, a kilt is a type of skirt and a skirt to fit a man tends to be larger than a woman's skirt.
