    John Morrison kilt maker

Does anyone know anything about John Morrison of Edinburgh as a kilt maker?
Also what does bespoke mean when we are talking about kilt makers?
    Regards David

I think you will find that the name John Morrison Kiltmaker was purchased by the conglomerate known as the Gold Bros. a couple of years ago.

Morrisons was once a well respected kiltmaker in Edinburgh, sadly now gone to pigs and whistles as part of the Gold Bros conglomerate as Steve says.
They used the name for a while over a shop in princes Street -

But then changed the name for some reason to this -

    John Morrison

I had a terrible experience with them about 2 years ago when they failed to produce a bespoke jacket I had ordered and half paid for. I did get a full refund but their service was appalling - lots of promises, lots of silence. I personally would not touch them. And as for the Gold Bros - I need say no more !

Bespoke means in tailoring terms and one or two other trades,is; What the customer asks for the customer gets in a fully hand tailored way. If you have a bespoke tailor it is wise to consult with him and it is often wise to listen! Nevertheless, bespoke means top of the top range. Your question surprises me greatly, in the context that you have asked, but I am happy to live and learn.

Sorry Jock, I had two seperate and non related questions, The question about Morrison was regarding my brother-in-law who is considering buying a kilt outfit . The quetion that you answered, bespoke, was for my own clarification as I have seen it on a few websites like scotweb's Manley Richardson.

I know I posted earlier but didn't answer about "bespoke". I have a kilt ( just one) made by a long established tailors in Edinburgh - http://stewart-christie.com/ - to my measurements. Later I asked them to alter my late father-in-law's kilt to fit me which they were able to do without even measuring me. That is because they had kept a record of my previous kilt and were able to replicate it. And an excellent job they did too. That is bespoke.
