Younger "kilters" wearing tweed

You look great! I'm early 30s and have a few tweed jackets and it's funny how I get more complements on them vs. other suit-type jackets. And I'm currently in the market for a tweed jacket/vest myself - so good for you!

I second the "loose the tartan pocket square" and agree a traditional tie might go better. However, if your cousins are all wearing the same tie in solidarity or as a family thing, then I don't see why you shouldn't as well if you want to - family over fashion in this case.

The hose are out of balance - they should be lighter and of a colour and shade to complement the kilt and tone with the jacket so as to create an outfit.

You knew that already, really.

I don't associate tweed with any particular age - perhaps because I don't see it now, but in my younger days in the English Midlands everyone from the Young Farmers to the OAPs wore it - Harris tweed was to be seen in any clothes shop, for both men and women.

I might be showing my age here.

Every time I mention to people that I'm wearing a tweed jacket to a wedding they say "that's not formal enough". I tell them I shouldnt really wear a Prince Charlie since it's too formal as I have no role in the wedding and I'm just a cousin as well as the time of the wedding being very early. They seem to think that tweed jackets are for OLD MEN and JUST FOR HUNTING... (obviously they don't know you guys!)

I think I'll wear a black Argyll to the wedding simply because I want to wear a cravat and it doesn't really go with the tweed... I'd also feel obligated to get a brownish sporran to go with my jacket if I were to wear the tweed.

You will I am sure look very smart in whatever you are going to wear,you have given it a lot of thought. This might help you to judge a wee bit better about tweed. Consider that you would go to most weddings wearing a suit if not kilted,yes? Your tweed argyll with the waist coat and normal tie is the kilted equivalent of a suit. Black or brown sporran, it matters not. For what it is worth I wear a black sporran with my tweed.Each to their own. Good luck.

I agree, an ordinary tie & a different colour hose would look better, I also think that the sporran is too formal for the outfit. Great outfit otherwise.

I'd still say wear the tweed over the black argyll, you can wear a black or brown sporran whichever you have it really should not matter. If you notice in the photo I posted I am wearing a black sporran.

A part of me wants to but I've had negative comments about the tweed that I wouldnt even have expected. Sometimes I feel that so many uneducated people (yes... the type to wear cream hose with any kilt outfit and their kilt covering the whole knee) ought to research what is appropriate, what is traditional and that people wear tweed jacket for more than hunting.
I did have a good reply though "if tweed jackets were only worn for hunting why does every single good kiltmaking store sell them?"
I mean how many % of kilted gentlemen actually go hunting... no wait... how many PEOPLE actually go hunting?
Not enough for kilt shops to stock up on these jackets for.

Well I go hunting(uk terms with horse and hounds) and I go shooting(uk terms with rifle or shotgun) and tweed is not often worn hunting and tartan is very rarely worn shooting.You will notice that the tweed shooting jacket is "cut"(tailored) in a completely different way to a kilt jacket.You have nothing to worry about if you decide to wear your tweed kilt attire,you will "knock 'em dead". Might I just add that there are many here on this websitethat would "kill" for the chance to wear your tweed outfit!

I happen to like the jacket/vest you are wearing in post #13. I am in the process of researching an outfit right now and like the cut of your coat. I will be making me a kilt and am trying to get the 'right' tartan and color combination going.

Wear did you get it and have your tried the Skyehighland products?
