When I first read Ron's post, I thought that it might be an ode to PG Wodehouse . Great set of pictures.

Before my daughter settled on the Christina Young tartan for her kilt, she insisted she wanted the loud MacLeod, but wanted a matching yellow vest with gold braid..... I try not to discourage the girl, but this combination was a bit too much to even visualize. It just plain hurt my brain!

    That would have been blinding!

The "Loud MacLeod" gets a lot of guff on this forum but I love it. I have some unconfirmed ties to the clan and would be proud to sport it either way. Yeah, its bright, but it is still a beautiful tartan. I have seen much much more ummm how to put it "unique" tartans which I would never wear. The bands look great and they wear the uniforms well.

I am with BB on the guff aspect of the Clan MacLeod tartan. It is very distinctive and as such is one to be proud of wearing. It looks good on the band and is well suited to the F-H C.A.G. Many of the tartans are derived from the Black Watch, and as such have very little that is different from each other. It takes a MacNaughton or Cunningham before the tartan has enough unique points to be easily and distinctly identified. I wear the MacNeil of Barra ancient tartan. Many, who are not well versed on tartans and thread counts, can not tell it apart from the Lamont, Black Watch, Fraser, or Campbell. It is all blue and green to the general public here. Be proud of the MacLeod it is a well designed and distinctive tartan.

How do you figure? There are more than 5,500 tartans listed with the Tartan Authority. Of the 9 tartans that I would wear, not one shares even a similar color scheme with Blackwatch.

Just had to post this. I am wearing the Loud Macleod on a Preston Kilt night earlier this year. Good job we were all wearing Dandelions, otherwise we would never have recognised each other.

Dixiecat - is this the one you mean:

    Oskie Wee Wee
    Oskie Waa Waa
    Holy Mackinaw
    Tigers... Eat 'em RAW!!

    Regards

    Chas

Yes, but do you know why I would quote that here in a 'loud' MacLeod thread?

BTW, what's the tartan of the gentleman to the right of you? With the blue and yellow?
