    For me, it's the socks.
    The blue harlequin-looking socks.

Well, they certainly are a proper choice of hose. De gustibus and all that, I guess.

    I quite like the hose!

I personally do not find the color choices and some details of accessorization in that outfit pleasing to the eye. This my personal appraisal of the outfit, regardless of who is wearing it.

    Fair enough.

It is a great pity, though, that more gentlemen do not dress with a better sense of style, and more in the "Highland tradition."

Some of what is acceptable and actually prized in formal Highland wear, especially historically, flies in the face of what many of us would match-up in our modern sense of fashion.

I think this is tasteful, but I see where it wouldn't fit everybody's definition of that. I do think it is nevertheless quite correct.

There's nothing there that I don't like unto themselves, but all of them together just makes for an unpleasant aesthetic in my mind.

    Personally, I like his attire.
As for the Burgess name, being one myself I've done a good bit of searching and found that most of them came from England, but a few branches came from Scotland. Many of the Englishmen were merchants that went to Scotland to set up business, then followed the Scots to America. I don't know which direction my genes took, and have found other family connections to Scotland. In my searches I've often run across brushes with Clan Ross and others, but it would only be speculation to connect JD to the Ross name.
