    Do you, don't you?

Alright then, there you are donning your 5/6 button waist coat (vest) of your kilt day attire, ready to knock 'em dead out on the town. Do you do up the bottom button? Or, do you leave it undone, as is the fashion with a three piece suit? I know what I do and why. Do you?

I leave the bottom button undone, it prevents the vest bunching up when I sit down. It's the same with a jacket. I unbutton when I sit down and button up when I stand up. (the vest I leave unbutton all the time)

I button it. As for with why, I wasn't brought up to leave waistcoat buttons undone so I never picked up the habit.

I haven't worn it often but I have a tendency to button it and if it doesn't feel right when sitting, then I unbutton the lower button.

Depends on the cut of the vest... If it's a straight cut across the bottom, I leave it buttoned... Otherwise, I leave it unbuttoned.

When wearing a three-piece suit, I usually leave the bottom button undone on my waistcoat as is the custom and fashion. Occasionally, I will button it as I think it should be buttoned, but the fashion-police quickly note my inability to catch up to the 21st century and vigorously point out the error of my ways. We Yanks are not as polite as the Scots in this regard.

When in kilted day wear, I button that wayward lower button and openly defy the kilt fashion police. I was not alone in doing so when I attended the 2009 Gathering in Edinburgh in July.

Some of my waistcoats I am forced to leave the bottom button undone. The others I button. I think the most important thing is to look sharp and not have your waistcoat sagging around, which is what happens when I leave certain buttons un-buttoned.
