    Kilted weddings

Been out of the loop for a while now. Work and planning a wedding have taken up much of my time. But on to the story....

I've just come back from Canandaigua, NY where I helped celebrate a friend's wedding...kilted of course. The interesting part is that a little over two weeks ago another friend was married at the same venue. 9/6 saw me in Kerr Hunting and 9/26 in Kerr Shepherd. As the two gents who got married are in the same circle of friends, there were several other repeat attendees. I got more than one comment about having multiple kilts. "Didn't you have a different kilt on last time?" "How many of those things do you have?" etc. I think I may have even talked a few guys into taking the plunge. Even met one guy who is currently jonesing for the Dress Gordon he has on order. All in all a successful couple of trips as an ambassador to kilting.

    Still alive and kicking,
    Alex

    Sounds good
I guess you're wearing a kilt to your wedding.

Still trying to work that one out. I thought I had it locked in until I talked to my priest. I asked him what he thought about me being kilted and he said he'd have to think about it. I don't want to push back too hard since he's driving from RI to northern NH to preside over our wedding, but we shall see.

I agree with McMurdo. Though I understand that he is really going out of his way for you, unless he has some serious objection to men wearing kilts (which he'd have to take up with a Scotus here ) I see no reason to ask his permission or need to "clear" it with him.

I'm in the midst of planning my wedding and ran into a similar problem. This is no bash on religions, but some are more accepting than others (including my future wifie's). We ultimately decided to have a non-religious ceremony because she knew how important it was to me to honor my Scottish heritage. She made her one sacrifice in our relationship and now I owe her 1,000.

I agree with the sentiment to a point. All of us here have, to a certain extent, taken a "shove off" attitude toward those that would tell us how to dress ourselves. I, for one, tend to get my knickers in a bunch whenver someone gets into any facet of my business.

On the other hand, I have been a member of the Greek Orthodox Church for my whole life. As the handful of orther Orthodox brethren here know, the GO Church is VERY tied to tradition and has certain unwritten (and written for that matter) rules of decorum. I don't think his objection is of kilts or unbifurcated garments in general. After all, the Evzones wear kilt-like garments as they stand post at the Greek Tomb of the Unknown. I think he's more worried about the kilt taking away from the "Orthodxy-ness" of the ceremony. If he would feel more comfortable presiding over our union with me in trousers rather than a kilt, I will wear trousers, and do it with a smile on my face. I would rather sacrifice the kilt than a 20+ year relationship with him. I can very easily ditch the loathsome p@nts after the ceremony and kilt up for the reception.

Ah, so you are G.O., Kerr!! Ok, I would just suggest that if Father raises a question, I would just shrug and say, "Ekonomia!"

I think that is a very good compromise for your faith and its traditions. You might shoot a PM or e-mail to Fr. John here at Xmarks -- Prester John is his username -- he was the priest at an OCA parish that held a Kirkin' of the Tartan service back in 2005.
