And there are some examples in this thread that make me glad I dropped out in Cub Scouts.
In all seriousness, not going on to the BSA and obtaining my Eagle Scout will always be a bit of a nagging regret for me, but at the same time, I wonder how much I would have enjoyed the organisation, being a bit of anachronism that rather enjoys uniforms, regalia and all that? I would have been one of those Scouts who wore the campaign hat with enthusiasm, since it is the symbol of Scouting (or was at one time) in the US and the World.
I fear that those of us who do appreciate such things will be once again unfairly generalized as the "uniform police".

Hmmm, that sounds like why I took up piping and joined a pipe band in my teens!
I have no dog in the BSA/uniform fight.

Well played.
I really don't have a dog in the fight either, except that I enjoy reading about the history of the Scouting movement and its connections to Lord B-P and the Legion of Frontiersmen.

Todd, what is the connection between the Scout movement and the Legion of Frontiersmen?

See Robert MacDonald's Sons of the Empire : the frontier and the Boy Scout movement, 1890-1918 (Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1993).
The basic premise was that both the Legion and the Scouts were paramilitary organisations started after the Boer War to provide intelligence and other auxillary services to Crown Forces. More to follow...
