Science in a Sporran - Missing an excuse to go kilted

I dont really know... to be honest I've lost faith in young Glaswegians. I'm only 19 myself but whenever I see someone kilted walking around the centre centre of Glasgow on any weekend (which I'll need to do to get the bus) there seems to be a lot of negative reactions. The people are very petty but I hate being singled out. I'm sure I'll be able to ignore it.
I hope there's some more kilted people around the Science centre...
I'm sure you can remember at the piping championships Jimmy - the very very small number of people not in pipe bands who were kilted. I was disappointed about that - and even got asked why I was wearing a kilt if I'm not in a pipe band. I replied "I like wearing my kilt to Scottish-themed events like this" and got a surprised reaction.

I'm totally surprised at your comments about the negative reactions from you about glaswegians young and old, I would have to go back a good number of years before I got any negative reaction from anyone in the west of Scotland about wearing a kilt.
Come on Paul, you live now in a generation even in Scotland that accepts wearing a kilt particularly for young people like yourself at any time as quite cool and trendy. I only wish that I was your age again.
Sure there could have been more kilties in Glasgow Green but remember the number of kilties at the the Gathering,
What is it about Glasgow that when Scotland play an important match the city is full of kilties, everyone has tartan rapped about their waist but at an event like the Worlds, the kilt is left in the wardrobe/
I think Paul that the negative reaction would be reserved for older individuals such as me but I do not find this to be the case and always get a favourable reaction to wearing my kilt. In Partick where the 3 Judges pub is located I have worn the kilt on many a Friday night and always had favourable comments.
I think Paul that when people ask you why you are wearing your kilt at an event like the piping championship in Glasgow there is an underlying comment of approval there, as you know we are so reluctant to praise each other in Scotland.
So come on Paul, you look great in a kilt, so wear it without thinking about any negativity.

With regards to Arthur's party, its on the Thursday for one day only and we do not arrive until this Friday. I won't be kilted in Dublin as I only want to wear my kilt when it suits me but in the past I have worn it there

I have raerly had any negative reaction when wering my kilt in Glasgow , however I find the further west and south west I go I do get negative reactions up hear in Dundee I wear my kilt as often as possibile , I am interested in astronomy and space and quite often wear my kilt to events in fact last december I had one of my kilts on when visiting the science centre

I went to it on sunday... generally it was ok. There wasnt much in addition to the regular science centre. There was a stall about the scince behind communicating how good a whisky is by looking at someones face as they taste it. There was also a piper explaining the noise level of bagpipes and how the drones can ruin your ears.
Also - there were some shows on... mainly repeated througout the day. Most of them were for kids... I went to one of the kids ones and it was pretty funny but I never learned a lot (it was about Newton's laws and was explained by playing golf).

The other show at 3pm on genetics was really good. I qued for it but it ended up being less than 1/4 full - probably about a douzen people there. A Glasgow Uni lecturer explained the clan system and family links to DNA very well... was really interesting!

I noticed only 2 people (not including the piper) wearing kilts and it was 2 guys who worked there wearing a Gold Brothers PV Freedom tartan with no sporran.

Sorry that the event was not all you might have hoped. That happens. But good for you for daring to go out and about, especially if you feared a negative reaction to your being kilt while doing so!
