Hi;
My Great, Great Grandfather was Edward Charles MacDonald, My G>G> Uncle, his brother, Angus William macDonald, Thier father was Angus MacDonald who died during the war of 1812. His Father was Angus McCallister MacDonald who came to Virginia in 1766 after fighting at the battle of Culloden where his father was killed. My G>G> Aunt, Cornellia Peak MacDonald. Angus was a Col. under Gen. Andrew Jackson and commander of the Larual Brigade. He died from wounds and mistreatment after being captured and held prisoner by the Yankees. Edward Charles was a Col. on the staff of Gen. Sterling Price in Mo. He was sent to Richmond in the winter of 1862 by Gen. Price to obtain funds for the war effort in the midwest, He made it all the way to his home in Winchester, Va but passed away from Pnumonia three days later with Angus at his side.
If you would like to know more about the family you could get a copy of Cornillia's book "A Diary with remininscences of the war and refugee life in the Shenandoah valley 1860-1865." Also "The Glengarry MacDonalds of Virginia" by Flora Williams MacDonald.
