Interesting question Rex, we had all decided independently that we wanted to check out the Bass Pro Shop; we simply made it an extension of the trip.

I missed that! Does the tent come in full size, too?

How much is this going to cost me to retrofit all my camping gear to match my Pink Death camo kilt?

I also have some pics to share. No blackmail in these....

    ....unless this counts, Richard?

Thanks so much for taking such good charge of the kids, Richard. We're lucky to have you in our lives.

Of course, you were off taking care of the kids when we got these shots:

From left to right: Scooby (wearing a kilt make by his father, Smayniac), Smayniac (wearing a kilt he made), Farlander (wearing a kilt he made), bunchdescendant (wearing a kilt he made), Panache (wearing a kilt made by AlanH)

Here are some more happy kid shots.

Wee Xena, fishing with her DIYer fishing pole:

Sinbad, playing chicken with the sprinklers in the day use area:

On that same "hike" (it was a pretty gentle stroll, actually), I had to show off as well.

Back at camp, walkerk and the Amazing Madalyn brought us lunch and spent the afternoon and evening with us.

    More to come!

    Be well,

Saturday night we had a great campfire program, thanks to Mrs. Farlander. Everyone should go camping with a park ranger! I'll let her tell you what terrible campers we were, though.

The bar helped to loosen us up considerably. There was much singing. Or at least I did much singing, anyway!

    Panache's favorite gin:

And his not-so-favorite. This stuff that Farlander brought was, umm, shall we say, interesting?

We didn't just drink. We also had a lovely potluck supper. And the kids treated us to a marvelous rose hip tea, made from rosehips they collected themselves before dinner, sweetened with wild grapes harvested at the same time, that they made all by themselves (with a little help from this fellow, here).

Again, thanks for being so great with the kids, Richard!

The next morning, after a little breakfast (Sorry about the pancakes, guys, if I'd been thinking, I would have realized I should never trust Jamie to pack! The story being that I went to make breakfast, which was to include my home-made pancake mix, when Jamie told me that he's forgotten to bring it. The next day, as we were packing up, I found the mix, nicely packed at the bottom of our food cooler )

    And some goofing around:

We had to get out of the camp site by noon, so I collected the hats:

And we headed home, via the Bass Pro shop-which I think we've all seen enough of, and Chili's, which we also don't need to see again. I brought home a lot of nice memories, a new bird (Bewick's wren) and a terrible head cold (oh well).

It was a lovely weekend. I hope we do it again next year!

    Be well,

    Star

Sorry we missed out on such a great adventure. I approve of some of the head gear.

Wow, Kent and Star, some fabulous pics there, looks like a wonderful time had by all. Wish I could have joined you. I am posting this from a wee bit south of you right now in sunny Santa Barbara, moving on to Ventura on Friday for the games, where I hope to meet up with some of the SoCal rabble.
