I'd find it bizarre indeed not to see a kilt pin!
You'll have a conniption then if you ever attended a highland games!

Looks like a fly. Not my taste, but to each his own. Thanks for posting the pic.

I am with Rex and McMurdo on this one. I almost always wear a kilt pin of some sort (unless I just plain forget), and usually try to find something artistic in a metallic finish and or color that complements either the kilt or the other bling I may be wearing (brass for a brass belt buckle, for instance, or a triple maple leaf pin for my Maple Leaf kilt). I do have a family crest sword pin which was one of the first if not the first i acquired, but only wear it occasionally now, usually in a formal setting. Since men generally have so few occasions to wear something beautiful in the way of jewelry (unless you are into earrings or finger rings-I am not) the kilt pin provides one nice opportunity to do so and express ones artistic and colorful side at the same time. I almost always wear mine down right but not too low on the apron edge, and I usually center it on a prominent stripe in the tartan to give it even more visual prominence.

Every kilt I own has its own kilt pin. I do have some sword and crest, as well as some unique pieces. For the snag issue. I have only had the kilt pin snag twice, once on the mount for the shifter in my car - no damage to the kilt, but did snap a piece off the pin, the second was on the door pocket in a hire car in Ireland - no damage to the kilt, just a scratch in the interior of the car. The OP asked what those of us traditionalists wear, and we seam to all wear a kilt pin. I use the "nappy pin" type on my lighter weight kilts.
