    I too wear me belt as an accessory not as a necessity, I always understood that the belt was not suppose ta hold the kilt up. I use it ta hold me sporran, belt pouch, dagger,flask pouch, etc.
    I don't believe the idea is to arrive in heaven in a well preserved body! But to slide in side ways,Kilt A' Fly'n! Scream'en "Mon Wha A Ride" Kilted Santas

    The original philabeg was a piece of cloth wrapped around your waist and the belt held it up. My pet theory is that the Victorians wore the belt to look traditional to their eyes, even though their kilts had buckles, and now people copy the Victorians to look traditional, including non-functional things that they wore to look like someone from a period that they thought was old enough to be traditional back then.

    All the belts I wear with my kilts are purely decorative. I often forgo wearing a belt when Scottish Country Dancing for comfort.

    I like the way they look and that is the sole reason I wear them.

    Jerry's brown and brass day wear belt is a good deal and a handsome bit of kilt for the money
