Tweed jacket "cut-off"?

Hi guys. I finally bought a nice tweed jacket and waistcoat.
I think it looks pretty good but it's not a standard "Argyll cut-off" tweed as it cuts lower and doesnt have a great diagonal for the sporran space. It's 6inches or so shorter than my suit jackets - although a few inches longer than my Argylls.
If I fastened it; it would cover half my sporran. When it's open it shows my full sporran sitting inbetween the 2 sides of the jacket.

I'm guessing it's still a kilt jacket, right?

I'm not an expert, and I can't look at the picture, but I have seen talk of traditional daywear jackets with very little cutaway. The hem of the jacket should probably not be any lower than the bottom of the fell of the kilt. You also won't be wearing the kilt jacket closed, so...

That's all I know.

Is it one of the new styles that Slanj has been putting out? I don't remember the name of the style. Also Lord Semphill wore a long cut kilt jacket at the Gathering. How did you obtain yours? I'd like to see a better photo of it before passing final judgement.

I bought it new from someone who purchased it with an outfit package from an independent kiltmakers. It is tagged "Heritage Clothing Ltd., Scotland". I dont think this is Heritage of Scotland and they don't seem to have any lower-cut tweeds on their site.

The jacket is perfectly alright, if a trifle long by present-day standards. Kilt jackets seem to have become shorter after WWI, quite possibly due to a shortage of material after the war. If, at some point n the future, you decide you would like it a tad shorter it will be no big deal to whack an inch or two off the skirt with the end result still looking better than many an altered tweed sports coat.

Wear it a few times, and then decide what to do.

It is a kilt jacket, recently from what I've seen some vendors out there have actually realized that kilts are being worn by the younger generation as well. This looks like something geared to the younger crowd, if you ask me, and I for one think it looks smashing, perhaps a bit different than the jackets in my collection but we do not have to be cookie cuts of each other.

A great looking jacket. I've seen painting of kilt-jacked men where there is no cutout at all. Somehow I very much like the one you have.

That looks great, I think you've found a way to wear tweed and be comfortable with it. Well done.
