help! wedding on saturday & the lads' kilt jackets & shoes not right

Arrgh! My beautiful bride and I thought we were pretty much all set for our wedding coming up on Saturday, with most of the male folks scheduled to be decked out in full highland regalia. Groom, father of the groom, and the two ringbearers all to be attired in proper kilts in the family tartan, the three male attendants in kilts, and even one of our ushers in his kilt!

But when the rental jackets & shoes arrived today for our adorable ringbearers (aged 5&6), alas the jackets and shoes are *way* too big - almost as if the rental place didn't actually stock adequately small sizes for the lads?!! Rental place was closed for the day by the time we were able to try the first outfit on the first lad, so not much that could be done this evening beyond sending them an email & waiting for their phone lines to open in the a.m.

I'm hoping the rental place will be step up with a solution (they were well-reviewed on this board & will remain nameless until they've had a fair opportunity to fix the problem), but I must admit that the logical conclusion from looking at the items in question is that the shop simply figures that the way to handle wee lads is just to have them muddle through wearing clothes that are way too big. So, if my rental place fails to come through with a fix, does anyone know of shops that could help at this late date??

At this point, best option might be to just dress the lads down into something that will fit them. But they'll be disappointed - they were really looking forward to having spiffy black jackets, shoes & the whole nine yards - just like their bigger relatives! Very frustrating, as this is a problem we could have solved back in July when we placed our order, if the shop had been up-front with us about what they would provide us. But there's not much time now.

Granted, failing to dress the wee lads in full highland regalia isn't the end of the world - my beautiful bride and I will get married & have a great life either way. But opportunities to deck out how the whole group like this don't come around very often. And considering the significant sums charged by presumably professional kilt rental outfits, we shouldn't be scrounging around for second-best solutions at the last minute like this.

I've got a couple backup kilt rental shops I've found on the internet tonight, that I'll try tomorrow if worst comes to worst. But I fear it's likely they will be booked up and unavailable on such short notice. If folks have recommendations/suggestions, I'd be grateful! By the way, I'm in Indiana, USA.

    Thanks,

    Robb

Gosh, how disappointing for this to happen on the eve of the wedding. Alright, small jackets and shoes are not provided; what to do? To get your young team by, find a couple of black, or very dark blue pullovers(well fitted pullovers beat ill fitting jackets any day) and do they already have any black shoes? If they have, shine them up and away you go! You may have to buy some black shoes though, I am afraid. Perfect all this is not, but it will get you by.Good luck.

That's a real shame and I hope you get it sorted out in time. I would secong Jock's suggestion of any black shoes that fit and maybe you can get some sort of black top, cardigan, body-warmer. Nobody expects little ones to look perfect, the kilt is the main thing.

Jock's idea of black pullovers is spot on as a fall back position.

Thanks for the moral support. I'm going to call some places to see if there's still any chance of pulling the odd rabbit out of a hat.

But if not, I've been thinking along the lines of folks' suggestions here . . .

Most big tuxedo rental shops also carry things in wee-kid sizes. You might consider black waistcoats, white shirts, and ties the same colour as the bride's maids' dresses.

Good luck on your new adventure!

Today is tuesday, wedding is Saturday, to quote Douglas Adams DON"T Panic!

Call the rental shop, explain the situation. Make sure you have the lads proper sizes! Ask for them to make this right. I am sure they will try everything in their power to "make it so". Fed-Ex has lots of time to deliver. If this is what you want for your wedding, you shall have it.

If you don't have the time to call today, PM me and I will. Lots of things can be handled with the phone and E-mail.

Have no fear your X-marks family is here.

    making progress

Well, the rental place clearly overpromised on the shoes - it turns out they just don't have them in small sizes. You'd think they would have mentioned that when we placed the order - or at the very least when I called back a couple weeks ago to double check the order. (Really was pretty ridiculous to see the wee lads in shoes that were about 2x too large!) We managed to buy some standard black dress shoes - not what we ordered (not even wingtips), but at this point we're trying to make do.

As for jackets, they've promised to overnight us some in more appropriate sizes.

Nice enough folks, but I just don't get the sense that they put much priority on having the clothes actually fit.

I did a wedding this last weekend where the "stars" of the show were two ring bearers. I they were identical twins about 3 3/4 (almost 4). They were in "best" type Tuxes (meaning Jackets and Pants) one had a white shirt one had a "multi colored" (meaning his favorite Dinosaur Shirt), I really didn't notice what shoes, didnt matter.

They both carrried the "rings" one of him and one for her......

The church erupted! The kids got a standing O all the way down the isle... Set the tone for a wonderful touching ceremony.

    Your lads will be great!

Relax, remember to breath and enjoy one of the most wonderful sights a man can be blessed to see.......... your Bride................................... in her wedding dress............................................. .................................... coming down the isle.............................................. ........................................, to marry you.

    God Bless.
