I have seen this jacket on e-bay, if it were just a 50L, I would be it's proud new owner, someone will get a really nice addition to their kit for a great price.

My guess is that it's probably a 38, possibly in a short fitting.

They do, however, the trend I've seen is the bigger the jacket, the harder it is to find.

I won one just today, off Ebay.. a Donegal grey tweed in a 50.. and I plan on having vmac convert it for me. They are out there.

I did a re-model of a black and gray herringbone into an Argyle for a local pal of mine. I found the jacket at a local thrift store and it was long enough to successfully convert it. A little from there makes a little for here, or something like that.

Took quite a while to find one that would work, as my friend wears a size 54 jacket.

Aren't many of them to be found.

My Simplicity pattern only goes up to an x-large. I guess if I ever needed to make a really big one from scratch, I would have to get a lot better at pattern modification than I am.

I was the fortunate winner of that jacket (though I didn't see your post until later). I suspect it is a bit short for me. Though it is correct in the shoulders, I notice that the arms are rather longer than the jacket sides. If I button it, my shirt shows above the kilt below the jacket and that seems wrong. I am a slender 5' 10" so it might fit a teenager best. I'll wear it a while before I give up on it. It was made by Alex Scott of Aberdeen (http://www.kiltmakers.co.uk/) in a style they no longer offer, but it is an attractive jacket, less green that the photo.

Would you be able to post photos of you wearing it complete in your kilt?

MacBean, at what level ( waist, ribs, etc.) are you wearing your kilt? I wore mine too low ( on the hips, like jeans) for a long time. I am not saying you have to, but many men wear theirs as high as their belly button or the bottom of their ribcage. Would that address the jacket length?
