And that length is indeed welcome in cold weather, especially if it's also heavy wool.

(sorry, this should be a quote from an earlier post)

With regard to an exposed kneecap in cold weather I remember reading this (can't remember where) ' Don't worry about being cold in a kilt, the only part of the leg exposed to cold weather is the bony structure of the knee, which doesn't feel the cold'

Since writing my original post I've been 'experimenting' in my kilts and one thing I do find is that the kilt does seem to 'swing' (or 'swish') better in the longer length (centre of the kneecap). At the end of the day it's a matter of choice. Just make sure that your kilt doesn't hang below the centre of the knee (watch out - it's those kilt polis again ! ith

    Mid-knee for me.

BTW, the reason some kilts hang lower by the end of the evening is due to overeating and our bellies pushing the buckle southwards!

Where ought a kilt come to?
Somewhere between what the lady of the house allows and the bottom of your purse
May you find joy in the wee, ken the universe in the peculiar and capture peace in the compass of drop of dew
