I saw all the original transmissions at their first showing, and I now have all seven series on DVD - great stuff! Also, I have been fortunate enough to meet both Duncan (Hamish Clark) and Archie (Alastair MacKenzie) so I know I do not identify with either. In my dreams I AM Killwillie, but in reality I am probably more of a Hector!!
Take care,
Ham.

Remind me to stay far away from you if you're Useless.
Mrs. Kiltman says I'm somewhere between Hector and Golly. My favorite character is Lexi for her wit and mischievousness. I love the scene where Archie is in the bath and she pulls the plug to get him to answer her. What a woman!

Nor had I, but my neighborhood public library is allowing me to correct that. I'm part-way through season 4, but had to put it aside for a few weeks.

Good question. It's difficult to place yourself as one of the characters in a show like this; we all see ourselves different than others do. If I were to pick out one character from the show I would say I'm a bit like Harold Xavier in personality.
When I see PC Callum McInture appear on the show, I always remind myself that he is actually Molly's nephew, son of her brother Jolyon. It's funny how they found this out, then nothing more is said of it in any episode.

I wasn't too sure about my objectivity so I asked my wife and daughters. I was afraid I'd be Donald but they all agreed I'd be Golly, which I find very flattering. I don't hunt anymore and I never fished but they said they thought I was like him in terms of guidance and the ability to see what's really happening. I like my family.

Hector is my favorite character, but I'm probably most like Paul in personality.

Yikes! Since I don't know you, Sir William, what I'm about to write should not seem to be a personal reflection on you.
Paul is my least favorite character of all. I like him less than Katrina. I call the last episode with Paul's final solution to the financial problem, "Katrina's revenge."
I'm sure, however, that you have all Paul's good qualities and none of his weaknesses.
