Cowboy Poet and a Kilted guy
Took my family to see cowboy poet Baxter Black on Saturday night. It was in conjunction with a cowboy gathering and festival at the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA. My wife has a few more pics I will add later.

Myself and Baxter Black

I've never heard of him - but any man with a moustache like that is a firm favourite of mine.

Baxter Black is truly funny... check out this link:

And if more serious poetry is your thing I'd recommend the Cowboy Poetry anthology "Between Earth and Sky" by Anne Heath Widmark.
Check out Anthem, by Buck Ramsey... IMHO just one of the finest d**n poems, Cowboy or otherwise...
And if that "cranks your tractor", check out the annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV (http://www.westernfolklife.org/site1...Gathering.html), put on by the Western Folklife Center.
Not surprisingly, there are some strong Celtic threads in the weave that is cowboy culture.

Wow, I used to hear this guy on NPR years ago! He had the most amazing stories of life on the range. I Hadn't even realized he was still alive.
"And now, Baxter Black, cowboy, poet and large animal veterinarian..."

You seem to enjoy this stuff. I do and my kids do but my Mom and Dad absolutely love it. I rode for a ranch right out of HS in WY. I can take it or leave it. BUT!!!!
If you like this type of music and poetry you have got to go to the Booth Museum up in Cartersville. I've seen and met Red Steagal, R.W. Hampton, Wylie and the Wild West, and now BAxter Black. Along with the GA Cowboy poet laurette. That is truly a great place. An all family event twice a year for us.
I got tons of comments from the vendors and the reenactors there. Even Chisolm of Chisolm holsters is going to make me a kilt belt and us a replica of Gus McRae's belt buckle for it.

KF mentioned the "Celtic" roots of Cowboy poetry & music; anyone interested should check out:
www.cowboyceltic.com
One of my favourite groups, "bar none".
In terms of cowboy poets and singers, I would through out one historical:
http://www.cowboypoetry.com/gardner.htm
Gail Gardner, from my Dad's hometown of Prescott, Arizona
And one modern:

My friend Marshall Trimble, Arizona State Historian and a great singer/storyteller.
Adios,
Todd

That's a great suggestion and I will most definitely check it out. I've got a daughter in Rome, so pass by Cartersville quite a bit!!
