now when are you going to make some for sale?
If there's interest in it, I could probably do that. What do you guys think a fair price would be for a belt like that? I'd have to talk to my wife and see if she could make them at the saddle shop within the price range you guys think is reasonable. When not building saddles, they make a lot of belts there; usually western-style belts with lots of tooling on them. But this one is easy enough to make that I'd think it could be done at a not-ungodly price. You'd have to keep in mind, though, that these would be hand-made custom belts and not mass-produced in a factory. So the price would reflect that.
Thanks for all the compliments!
I would only add a smile and you have an unbeatable combo. Great stuff.
LOL! I hate smiling in photos because I think it makes me look stupid. But I'm told that my natural facial expression looks like a scowl. It's not, though; honest!

Heh, well, let's not get ahead of ourselves!
I talked with my wife about it last night. She's game for it. I'll have to price the materials this weekend. I have to cut the strips from full hides, and you can only get so many belts from the longest part of the hide, so there's a lot of waste that would have to be factored in. Anyway, I'll price the hides, do some math, and see what I come up with.
Once I come up with prices, I'd need to get a minimum number of orders (firm orders, not a vague promise - I'd probably require full payment in advance or at least 1/2 up front before starting the work, which is common for custom leather work). Then buy the material, cut out the strips, and let her do the stitching at the saddle shop.
Hopefully I'll get back to this thread next week with a firm price. This would probably be a one-time affair unless there's enough interest to do more. I've been down the road before of trying to run my own custom leather pseudo-business. Working 60 hours a week like I do, it's too much to keep up with. So I'll do it now and again for fun, but if it turns out that there's a lot of demand, I'd turn it over to the saddle shop and let them do it all (which would likely raise the price).

You did a fine job! I like that belt -- brown's a good colour to go with a couple of my kilts. I could see doing that in a nice smooth black, and using tooled silver buckles, to be a little more fancy.
