    Smile Finnally, Support at Work!

As many of you know, I am a middle school teacher. I try to wear my kilt as often as possible, but I am not always able to. Tomorrow, we are allowing the students to wear costumes to celebrate Halloween. In the past, on this day, I have worn my kilt (I know it is not a costume, so please no lectures on that point). I have used this day as an excuse to wear my kilt on a day I typically would not be able to. This year, however, I was deciding against it. I was jut not in the mood to deal with the comments from students AND teachers. Then, one of my new students heared about me wearing a kilt. Today she asked me if I was going to wear it. I told her probably not. She then proceeded, with a lot of enthusiasm, to explain to me how cool kilts are and how she loves to see people wear them. She told me she wanted to buy one herself (I politely explained to her that Kilts are for gentlemen, but she does not care). She also asked if I was going to wear the 'cool socks' that guys wear with their kilts. By the end of the conversation she was pleading with me to wear my kilt. Who am I to say no? When a student is right, a student is right.

It has only taken me 2 years of kilt wearing to get a fan. Too bad she leaves at the end of the year. Teachers, Kilt On!

One of those rare days that the teacher learns from the student? You absolutely must wear your kilt now.

You didn't let her hear you say that, did you??? ;)

As I spent waaaaay too much of my afternoon making myself a spider costume for tomorrow, I definitely considered how much more I'd enjoy wearing my kilt to school tomorrow instead of four extra limbs sewn on my shirt...

Best of luck tomorrow...with the kilt and the over-stimulated kids!

Well, as a High School Science Teacher, I have decided that Fridays are Kilt days. But, since I don't want my students thinking kilts are costumes, I will be wearing something other than a Kilt tomorrow, yes it makes me sad, but maybe I'll double up next week!

Glad to hear that you have found a supporter. I hope that you are able to wear your kilt as often as you like.

    Cheers,

If you can't wear it that often at school, wear it as often as you can. It was a teachable moment in reverse. I'm now kilted on Thurs. and Fri. at Basalt High School and am considering NOT wearing it today because I do not want my students to see it as a costume. BUT, today is the last day of Parent Teacher Conferences so I'll dress up with my kilt. Kilt on my friend, kilt on!

Sounds like a student with a clear understanding of the word style.
