I also use a towel to gather the pleats while getting in my Jeep. A neck scarf works well, also, and it's less bulky. After all, sitting on a bundle of pleats AND a towel is not too comfortable.

Really not different than any other vehicle. I my case a Miata. I find scooping my butt with both hands id the only workable way. Some times I get goosed by a mound of pleats. That slows the get-a-way. Women have this in their genes. My wife about fell out of the passenger seat laughing, the first time I got in a car in a kilt.

If the drive is more than 20 minutes, I don't wear my kilt in the car. I'm a big guy and most cars don't fit me anyway. I can only imagine how comical it is to watch my 6'1", 275 trying to straighten my pleats on the seat of my fiance's neon. My nugget hits the headliner when I'm just sitting in the thing.

That's the way I do it.

I find that I can climb into the cab, and sweep the pleats as I slide under the steering wheel. I also flip the outer apron so the kilt pin is on my lap so that it does not get caught on the steering wheel as I slide. I have gotten into the habit of raising up and doing a final sweep before fastening the seat belt, then close the door, turn on the batteries, open the fuel valve, then start the engine. I then do a second pleat check while waiting for the air pressure to come up, that way I do not get pleat wrinkles in the back of my legs on a long trip. I have been doing long enough now that it is fully automatic, and startles people when I sweep whilst wearing trousers.

I understand where you're coming from. I'm 6'3" @ 200lbs and it can get a little silly trying to sweep pleats even in my 4Runner. It's way worse in a small car such as my wife's little Mazda sports car.

Well, I used the towel method tonight on the way to and from the Austin Celtic Festival and I must say that it worked quite well. It is a bit cumbersome, but it does work. I think that I have my solution.

Now if I could just learn to sit with more grace, and not look like such a girl when I do it. Sheesh!

Surely if you could get in a vehicle with as much grace as a girl you would be doing something right.

Now, where are all these girls who use a towel just to help them sit down? Funny, I've never seen any.

My truck isn't quite as big, but that's th same manner I use.

Wow the towel thing sounds rather involved. All you really need to do is sweep your pleats beneath you as you sit. Just take from any woman in a skirt next chance you get. You can do this while you open the door for your next date.
