Tartan waistcoat?
Hi guys. I want a wool tartan waistcoat that matches my tartan perfectly... so I'd be looking to supply the tartan from the mill (I'm ordering some for some other stuff anyway) or specify the mill for the maker to have this supplied if this option would be cheaper.
I'm looking for nothing complex and nothing too expensive. Just a 4/5 button waistcoat with the tartan diagonal at the front and perhaps a silk back. 2 or no pockets would be fine. Does anyone know where I could get one on a reeeaaaally tight budget?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

If you know anyone who can sew, see if they'll do you a favor and put one together using your tartan fabric. I've been trying to convince my wife to do this for me, but can't find any decent material at the fabric store that I'd want a waistcoat made out of.
Look for Simplicity pattern no. 4762. It should cost around $9 for the pattern. If you don't know anyone who can sew, go to the fabric store and ask around. Surely someone there will be willing to do it for you at a nominal fee.

After the first of the year, we'll have a new website up which will include custom waistcoats -- labor-only charges, various style options, and so on. But you should be able to find a more geographically suitable vendor. Vests/waistcoats are not difficult to make, but a bias-front tartan version is more of a challenge.

Do you wish to wear this with your kilt? Or for times when not wearing your kilt? I once wore a Maple leaf tartan shirt with my Maple Leaf kilt (not to mention a Maple Leaf tie that no one noticed, never again it was all too much. Even a waistcoat (on the diagonal) and kilt in matching tartan might be too much. Mind you, tartan pocket flaps on a charcoal wool waistcoat would be a nice touch.

I was about to recommend you!

I respectfully disagree.

I bought this from Scotweb. I bought mine at £44. I hope that doesn't break the bank too much.

I'll be in the market for a bias waistcoat soon myself. Thanks for starting this thread.

I'm glad you posted your pic, as I was just looking at their site and was curious if they also tailored these on the bias, as their pictures show them all on the horizontal.
BTW, looks sharp!
