Wool Tartan scraps??
I'm making flashings for my husband, using the great advice and instruction from Barb. As of now, I'm making them green but I'd like to surprise him with some made from his tartan (MacDonald Ancient). I certianly don't need a full yard, any advice on where I could purchase some smaller (scrap) pieces of fabric? I live in Southeast Texas. Thanks!

His particular tartan is quite expensive... I thought of buying a smaller item, like a tie, and deconstructing it to make the flashes? Any thoughts?

When our Society president started kilt making he took his scraps and glued? (decoupaged?) them on his old pick up truck. I think he went over it with polyurethane. It looked so good people (who didn't know anything about tartan) thought he'd painted it on.
I've got an old pick up truck. I always thought I'd try it if I can find some scraps like that.

I'll have some scraps of ancient macdonald of clanranald here soon. The only difference is the red line bordering the thick black (on macdonald) is white (on clanranald). You could probably make the flashes in a way that the white stripe doesn't show on the flashes. If you're interested, let me know. If not, understand that.

And I have the scraps now, I just need to make sure I'm set for flashes and a kilt waistband, then I'm good.

You can also buy "swatches" of tartan from many kiltmakers and manufacturers.

I considered that but wasn't sure how big the swatches were...
