Grrr! Fusible web- FAIL!

Tryn to finish hunny's flashes today- and the fusible web I bought isn't working properly! I'm going to try sewing it into place before going back to the store for a different kind... Hope these turn out alright, he needs them Tuesday!

I've had good outcome using the Steam-a-Lite 2 (sp?) that Barb specifically recommends in her tutorial. It's sold in rectangles, hanging in plastic packets, vs. the narrow strips of tape-like "instant hem" webbing you usually see.

I find that the trick is to put the iron straight down and not move it, other than to lift it off again.

If you try to iron it on it moves, as it doesn't glue until it cools down again.

Yup, you should get steam a seam 2. Most other iron ons are too weak (not enough glue) to hold wool or heavy weight material.

Steam a seam 2 worked great for me. (After I figured out you have to take the paper off both sides. )

My wife used steam a seam 2 on some flashes and it worked great.

The other thing I do, to make the flashes a little stiffer, is iron a piece of fusible twill (from a repair patch) on the backside, over the seam.

I had the same experience as Wally did - most didn't really do the job or were sticky on only one side. Lite Steam-a-Seam II is the best that I've found. Comes in sheets that you can cut up into strips.

I finished them! I sewed the bottom of the flashing and it turned out ok! I'll post a pic when he tries them on! Thanks for the help! At least I practiced on regular fabric before I messed up using real tartan!

I used Stitch Witchery for my flashes and it worked just fine on 13oz tartan. Stitch Witchery now comes in 18” x 36” sheets.
