Yep, it's surprising that there is no Mercer museum, etc. The unveiling is over... the highlight was the premiere of a new Mercer song... I kid you not!

There was an old unfinished lyric that was unearthed. Richard Sherman (acad award winning composer) wrote music for it and a recording of Michael Feinstein performing the song was played.

    "You're in Savannah"
    lyrics by Johnny Mercer

    Hominy grits when you waken
Peaches a breeze has just shaken
    Lyin' around for the takin'
    You're in Savannah
    You're in Savannah
Where Spanish moss hangs lazy on the trees
Where they say "Thank you ma'am" almost as much as "if you please"
    Even though folks are old-fashioned
    Bourbon and smiles are unrationed
    They can get pretty impassioned
    About Savannah
So if you're walking through a tree filled square
Where they say "Y'all come back, y'hear"
    Traveler, you're in Savannah
    My home town

I'll bet that was a surprise! If you find a link to the recording on the internet be sure to tell me. Thanks!

No link yet to the song but here's an article:

We're thinking that might be a store on State St. that has/had been a record shop off and on over the years.
