Too Fat To Fit ?
Well, guys and gals, for too long now I have been a lard-a** and the time has come to do something. For the 3rd year running I have declined the chance to go to the Oman Caledonian Ball for the simple reason I don’t fit my kilt anymore. I will not go in a DJ, so I will not go at all. I will also not buy a bigger kilt as I would look like King George IV during his Edinburgh visit in 1822.
After being an acceptable 30-32” waist for many years, I am now an embarrassment to myself. After watching my weight all these years, I decided to relax sometime ago. I don’t stuff my face with food all the time, but alas my diversions into eating the types of food and drink I can enjoy have cost me, plus I don’t like exercise and I sit and work at a desk. Too many delicious Indian curries, Indonesian rendang and sate, Chinese etc and of course my wife is Filipina, the national food of which is deep-fried anything (served with the oil). I don’t eat MacD etc very much as I know that is cholesterol city. However, enjoying life, plus wine, cider and beer has finally done for me.
So now I’m on a diet as of this week. It’s the fat-burning soup diet. I don’t believe it’s a miracle cure where the soup eats the fat (presumably air-heads are told that so it makes sense), but it does get results, as my colleagues can testify – what possible side-effects remain to be seen however and the internet is full of conflicting stories on the diet.
Wish me luck, I want to wear my kilt to the OmCal Ball next year.

I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Any chance of a few more details of this soup diet? After all there is soup and there is soup. At one end, I've seen soup so weak that it is helpless and at the other, soup that can only be eaten with a fork and SHARP knife.
A few more details if you could and a day by day diary sort of thing to keep us updated as to progress.
Regards
Chas

I don't know enough about the soup diet to know whether its soup and soup alone. However, from my experience trying to slice a few pounds, I would suggest adding in some steamed rice. It's almost impossible to eat enough rice to actually put on weight, and you can mix with just a little of something flavorful to make it go a long way. I particularly like a good spicy tomato soup with rice mixed into it. It's healthy, filling, tasty, and cheap.
Good luck, and don't forget the pictures next year!

This soup's so loaded that I had to beat it all down with a wooden spoon !
I can send a message with the diet on it, or if the site prefers, I can post it here.
I'm on my third day - I think I'm getting over the gulag feeling

Good luck. I've had great success (20 lbs so far) using a free on-line service called sparkpeople.com. It's basically a calorie counter but you can change ans manipulate the recommended meal plans as much as you like so long as you stay within the daily calorie allowance.

I've lost about 35 pounds, give or take, in the last year or so. My diet has consisted of everything I used to eat, just less of it, and constant monitoring of my weight. I still eschew exercise.
This has caused me the opposite problem that you have - which is of all the kilts I have now, only three fit me correctly.
Good luck,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

I think that we all want to hear about your successes or anti-successes. It gives us all hope. I have an intrest in that I am a little overweight. Or more to the point 'overwaist'. I go for a 5 mile walk every day and have reduced my intake, but the weight (and waist) will not shift. So anything that works will be of interest.

This has pretty much been my approach too. Well, I was exercising regularly for a few months, but fell out of the habit. Weight loss was obviously accelerated when I was exercising (that's when I lost the bulk of the 20 lbs or so), but I'm still trimming weight - just at a slower pace. Portion control. It's all about portion control. The nice thing is that you slowly lose the ability the cram in as much food; I find myself feeling full sooner even when I'm gorging on ribs or similar.
I'd probably melt off another 10 lbs if I could just cut out the Mountain Dew. That stuff is like crack.
If I cinch my (one and only) Stillwater tight, and tighten down the belt, it stays put. But it's probably best if I stick to wearing it casually, with an untucked rugby shirt or similar, as there is a little bit of bunching at the waist from the belt.
Good luck, Lachlan09!
