Not sure about finding one in brown and black together, but another option would be to search for purse straps on ebay. I found some that work quite well, are reasonably priced and the ones I found expand all the way to 50 inches.

I made two myself, a brown and a black one.

It is simply a long strap and a buckle. Not original in anyway but it is functioning much better than the chain belts.

Would it be proper to order a sporran belt before ordering a sporran? I know that I want a brown sporran. But is there any concern in matching the brown color of the strap with the sporran? Black is usually black but brown can vary more.

I think the quality of the leather matters more than any other factor and IMHO you needn't be concerned about an exact match of the browns. In fact, my brown Oconee strap isn't an exact match at all for my favorite brown leather sporran.

SWK has one of their (up 48" waist) black sprran belts on eBay regularly for
    $8.00 plus $7.00 shipping.

I am new to this Forum and just want to say thanks for all the good information here.
I posted an email to Oconee after reviewing these messages last night. I was not comfortable with my "standard" chain belt that came with my sporran. I appreciate all the good insight. Joe

My day wear sporran, which is admittedly 40 years old, is made from deer hide. When I had to replace the belt a few months ago I took the sporran along to the harness maker so that he could match the colours-- which he did using a bit of Lexol to "darken" the new tan belt. Does it matter? Probably not. But if you are concerned then you may either ask the sporran maker to supply a leather strap to match, or wait until the sporran arrives and then have a belt made to match.
