I must say I'd wear the outfit - boots and all. I think this particular Cummings tartan is a good choice for it - I think some other tartans might make the look a little over the top but well done!

Auld Iain MacLoughleif never held with these disordered garters an sich, so I still confuse yer lower orders of the what's er name, the nether regions of how's yer father and the outer circles of By your leave, thankee just the same... But it is a loovly sweet o clothes, it is. Too bad aboot his hair.

He might not be "Sir" but if he were a woman, would he not be called "Dame?" I recall that as connected to the British Empire award.

    Not quite.

    From Wikipedia:

The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions. In decreasing order of seniority, these are:

Knight Grand Cross (GBE) or Dame Grand Cross (GBE)
Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE)
    Commander (CBE)
    Officer (OBE)
    Member (MBE)
Only the two highest ranks admit an individual into knighthood automatically, an honour allowing the recipient to use the title "Sir" (male) or "Dame" (female) before his or her first name (though one can be knighted separately from the Orders of Chivalry).
    Emphasis mine.

Thanks! I see that I was partly right, though not in this case. So he's an officer now! I thought the "O" was just for Order. (too much contact with religous orders! )

    Officer?

Yes and no. The award he has been given has "Officer" in it's title, but this in no way grants the man a Queen's Commission.

It's just a hierarchy within the award to distinguish the level of achievement that the individual has reached. It appears to be roughly based on the categories of military rank.

The only thing now is that he can add the postnominals "O.B.E." to the end of his name. There are no other titles or stylings granted.

Not to downplay it, though! It's still a rare acheivement, and Bravo Zulu to him.

I think these boots might look a little better.
    I've always wanted a pair.
