I'm thinking of sitting on my 4 meters till I have the dollars to send it up to "slohairt" to build me an 8 yd. "main battle tank" out of it!
Has anyone gotten a tracking number on their shipment...?

At the prices he quoted for US shipping he is probably using the Royal Mails and tracking will do you no good, since once it gets to customs stateside it will disappear off the radar until it shows up on your doorstep.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS, gentlemen and ladies??
I'm planning on sewing myself an 8yd kilt... maybe to the sett? I haven't done one to the sett yet.
Or maybe a box pleat for me and one for someone else.
(I ordered 4m)

Plans? Not sure yet.
Originally was thinking of a piper's plaid when I ordered 4m. My wife convinced me to order another 4m, thinking of getting a kilt made for my son, so I have 8m on the way. Just seemed to good of a deal to pass on!

Anybody received theirs yet? How long should it take? My friend and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our 8 meters!!
So a question for you military buffs...what regiments/battalions used black watch tartan and what types of pleating do the units use in Scotland and Canada.
Pretty sure that the RROS uses a military box pleat now (a holdover from the A&SH?)
Did the Scottish Blackwatch use standard knife pleats before the amalgamation?
What types of pleats does the Canadian Black watch use?
I'd also be interested in the decorative panels, rosettes used by the units. I know that RROS now uses two green bows (from the Black Watch?) Was it A&SH that had the fancy panel?
Please send pics, links, info...would love to see them!!

How will I use it?? Hmmm.
Well first I have to decide whether I will use it or not. Seeing as Forrester is a sept of MacDonald (as well as Douglas), and that I have and wear a MacDonald Ancient, MacDonald Weathered, and muted MacDonald of Glencoe (ahh, there is the rub) I may have a bit of a historical problem putting the Black Watch (tartan of the Campbells) in the closet with the others, and justifying the wearing of the tartan of the Campbell clan as well. I ordered mine before I gave it good thought, and continue to give it good thought since ,while awaiting its arrival. I shall have to wait to see the feel, smell, look, and quality of the 5 meters I ordered before making my final decision. My closet is filling with lovely tartans in full 8-9 yd knife pleats, one casual, and a Kingussie on the way, so it may be time for a military box pleat, or knife pleat to the line (my first).
Otherwise it may end up going back up on the auction block. Needless to say my wife is not enthused that I have 11 kilt in the closet, 3 more on order, and now fabric for another en route. That may play a roll in my decision. Although military weight tartan just does not fall off trees these days you know.

My shipment came in the post this morning. When I got home at noon to my surprise there was a package on the front porch. I took it inside and carefully opened the packing. When I pulled the tartan out and showed my wife her first words were "man that is beautiful". Followed closely with the words "I don't care what it costs, you'd better find someone good to make a kilt out of this. It sure will be a beautiful kilt". That certainly sounds like the go ahead to contact Mrs. Tewksbury to me I love my wife!

Just got mine today! I haven't opened it yet, but Sean of Keltoi Kilts raised the question about the width of the garment. What are people finding?

Mine just came in as well!
It comes in at 56" (142cm).
A buddy of mine was here when I opened it. His reaction: "Man that's some nice material!"
It is. Nice and heavy. Think I've settled on the 4yd box pleat for me, and one for a friend.
This should make a very nice kilt.
