I like the total tartan look, though I doubt I could pull it off as well.
I'm not against boots with kilts but I think they are far too casual for this particular occasion.

In my opinion this Cumming is stunning in his absolutely supreme TFCK outfit! I have to agree with others concerning the boots - they work well for the overall appearance**, but I do not consider them suitable for wearing to such a prestigious event at Buckingham Palace.
My congratulations to Alan for his award and to Howie for creating the fine kilt suit.
** I suggest the boots work well here because they add visual weight to what might be seen as a top-heavy, bold ensemble - in a way, they anchor the wearer to the ground! Shoes just would not have the same effect.
Take care,
Ham.

Its obvious he lives on the edge... so the boots do not surprise me... it works for him.. I couldn't/wouldn't wear that outfit.. but I am about twice his size.. in both directions... LOL.

I have a pair of boots just like them - though I doubt I'd wear them to the palace to receive an OBE.

With all the comments on how Mr. Cumming "lives on the edge" and the references to his theatrical career, do any of you suppose that this was more of a calculated "look at me costume" than a natural expression of his Scottish origins?

Or possibly both?

Well since he had just been awarded it I believe it is safe to say someone pinned it on him so he doesn't get any credit for the proper placement.

As has been said, it looks good........but the boots....
All the best,
David
We sell a similar jacket through the museum's gift shop, called a "Wallace jacket.:

I've seen other vendors call the same thing a "Ghillie jacket."
We show ours available in tweeds, but there is no reason we couldn't have one made up in tartan if you so chose.
