And for the record I love paisley - it was my wedding "colour" ...

Just bought a lovely paisley bowtie (from Beau Ties) which I intend to wear for a fundraising event on Saturday - likely with my new Keltoi Highland Granite box-pleat, although it has the same colour scheme as the Maple Leaf tartan, and would look great with that, as well.

My preferences are number 1, then number 3. Both will present well. The white shirt gives a stronger presentation than the tan.

It is difficult to see from the photos, but consider if it is possible to shorten the waistcoat by altering at the shoulder seam to lift it up just a little.

Changing the lower edge might involve all sorts of problems with buttonholes, pockets and lining, but altering the upper edge is usually less fraught with difficulties.

I'm almost that old - started my professional life back in the late 60'es. But I never ever wore a hat. I remember that when still in high school I looked forward to the day that I could wear one, like my father. But just a few years later wearing a hat became an absolutely NO-NO, probably as a consequence of the 68-generation.

Greg, I can't speak about outside the USA, but when JFK chose not to wear a hat for his inauguration, and then throughout his administration, the hat industry here took a nose dive. Young men (and some older) throughout the country followed his lead and stopped wearing hats.

Curious, what part of the World do you live in, what type of company do you work for, and what sort of work do you do for them? Hard to decide a choice without that information. Understand if you choose not to reveal....and sorry if I missed it going through these six pages.

I live in the Texas Hill Country, northwest of San Antonio. But I work in San Antonio. I'm the District Engineer for a very large construction company. I am a licensed Professional Engineer, the head of the engineering department for my District which covers three states. My job is primarily in our office, although I sometimes visit jobsites.

So it's not a terribly formal workplace. The office staff tends to wear 'business casual' attire, which is barely a step up from jeans and boots.

Based on that, I'd vote for #1 for the office and #2 when you know you'll be on site.
