Sorry if it was misleading. The one flag is going to all the sites. So far it's been to about 40 of them. What I collect is the sites for future flights. I also share this for those who retire from the Navy (as I am a career counselor, so of a after market recruiter).
I either take the flag to the site or (most of the time) mail it to the site with a disposable camera and a donation.
Some disappointments have been the UN, they won't fly a fly from a US warship, especially one that flew while it was engaged in war. I can kind of understand that. The other major disappointment is the National Mall. They won't fly a personal flag at any of the monuments. Even when I showed up in uniform, usually the rangers are more than willing but no joy on that. I really want to get my flag on one of the five remaining shuttle missions but no reply from NASA on my emails.
Thanks for that additional sites. I really like the one in Lebanon KS.

May I suggest Fort Duffield (a Civil War era earthworks post outside Louisville, KY)? http://www.radclifftourism.org/fortduffield.shtml You'll probably need to bring your own flag pole unless you come on Memorial Day or Labor Day (no regular staff on duty).
While you're in the area, there's Ft. Knox and the Patton Museum just down the road. I doubt they'll fly it at the depository, but maybe somewhere on else base.
I would think just about any National Cemetery would be willing to fly your flag. We have Zachary Taylor National Cemetery here in town.
What about state capitols?

I was on DEG-6(Guided missile Destroyer Escort), The USS Julius A Furer. Later on, the hull designation was changed to FFG-6(Fast Frigate). It was originally classed as a DE, because it was an updated hull design adapted from the Garcia class DE's, to carry ASROC and Tartar anti aircraft missiles.

Keep the sites coming. I will add them to my master list.
I haven't heard of a state capitol that hasn't been willing to help. Granted I have only needed to help a couple people on that. Recently we had a Senior Chief (E8) retire and she wanted her flag for her retirement case flown at the USS Texas as she wanted to have something meaningful to represent she's a Texan. Since I never do anything half way I managed to get her flag to the Alamo (took it there myself on a three day weekend, a lot of fun) than over to the USS Texas who also had it flown over the San Jacenta Memorial. This was in addition to the capitol.
So far I have served active duty the USS Detroit AOE-4 (scrapped), TAD (temp duty) to the Kitty Hawk CV-63 (decomm), reserve duty on USS Constitution, USS Nimitz CVN-68, USS Lincoln CVN-72, and USS John C. Stennis CVN-74.
Recently I looked back at my career so far and I noticed that I have served in the surface navy, (USS Detroit), brown shoe navy (aviation with the carriers), amphib navy (BMU-2 beach masters), intel, ground navy (PHIBCB-1 sea bees) and spec war (SEAL team support). All I have to do in the next 5 years before I get my 20 is try and get stationed with a sub unit and I will have covered the entire navy.

Sounds like another worthy project...would this be hard to do, or is moving amongst the various disciplines fairly easy?

I had no idea I was doing this to begin with. I just moved to were they told me to go. I was filling out my profile on Together We Serve (a military face book) & I just noticed it. We normally call them communities though as it is still the same disciplines, in my case portable communications for most of it.

For the War of 1812, have you considered the U.S. Brig Niagara and Sackett's Harbor?
