Does any body here wear a sprig of Mistletoe in their cap during the holiday season??

No, but it grows on some of our native trees out here.

WE CAN ALSO GROW HOLLY OUT HERE< AND THE LEAVES MAKE A NICE TEA>
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

    Yep. just the leaves.

We can grow camellia here, but it is the wrong climate etc for tea.

    * I should point out that would be American holly; I don't know much about it's cousin across the pond.

I don't, but it sounds like a good idea.

Just for the heck of it... We can also grow Elephant Trees, I'm leaving out the scientific names, from which frankincense is made. It's from the sap of some of the trees, but the trees give off the scent, too. * Had to double check, but myrrh and the tree from which it comes, as well.*

    They would make good bonsai.

The holly is a little more difficult as a bonsai because of it's branch angles. I suppose it would make an interesting, living wreath topiary.

Ah, cool! I'm quite the fan of tea, really, and the idea of making an herbal infusion of holly sounds great to me! So, for you have to do anything special to the leaves, before you brew it? Also, infuse for how long and what temperature water?

Hah- sorry for all the questions, and thanks!

EDIT: Hang on... are we talking about Yaupon holly, or regular holly? I was hoping you were telling me we could drink tea made from "standard" holly.

    In the Bonnet

    Mistletoe, I certainly do.
I wear it often and beyond the holiday season.

Otherwise I pick a sprig of hardy flowering pine that grows around here.

    peace,
    justin

It's a good point - I'm pretty sure mistletoe is a clan's plant badge (must look it up).

Which raises a point - does anyone here on the forum wear their clan plant badge in their bonnets or elsewhere ? After all, it pre-dates clan tartans.
