Good luck to you on your diet. I started mine last summer and have been taking it off slowly. Today Im 40 pounds lighter than when I made my first "50 Yard Kilt", and still hope to loose another 20.
For me it's been a high protien diet. Staying away from a lot of pastas, etc. Portion control is the hardest for me. It is a lifestyle change, but at 40 pounds lighter the results are now seen by others and their comments are also encouraging.
Stick with it....

Thanks for your comment. You've done exceedingly well and it will give me encouragement to keep it going.
What sort of things do you eat and how does the regime work ?

I've lost 6kg, so that's not too bad.
But under this diet, pasta is a no-no. I'm not sure about pulses.
O me miserum ! I can live without Italian etc pasta no problem, but I do love noodles such as Pad Thai, Char Kwai Teow, Mie Goreng and Pansit Bihon/Canton. What to do ?
I also love some lentils and beans etc such as Highland lentil soup, dhansak etc.
Be strong boy !

Well, my diet goes on. Now I’m beginning to get the hang of it and am trying to think of new ways to keep my interest going. The first week was strictly as the script, the second week was branching out with 2 other vegetable soup types and interpreting meat day to include sashimi and shish kebab on respective days.
Now I’m looking at other flavours. As I like Indian food, I’m pretty sure it’s possible to make curries without frying first in fat or oil (at least only a spray of “healthy” oil). After all, various spices, plus onion, garlic etc are usually fried to enhance their essential oils/flavours, but that can be also done by dry-roasting. "Dry" North Indian cooking including seekh kebabs, kofte, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka etc can all be done for instance. I’m researching pulses to see if they can be used in the diet. Lentils and kidney beans etc would be useful to add to the repertoire. DFor soups, I’m thinking to add Highland lentil soup to the menu, but meatless and instead using bacon stock cubes or else a ham hock (later removed), Also pea and ham (without the ham !).
Now - how to make a healthy gumbo or shrimp etoufee !

There is a squash called vegetable spaghetti which is rather handy - and the inside of the fruits do look like spaghetti strands and make a good substitute.
I used to grow it in the garden - it is really easy and rather fun. I baked the pods in the oven.
If you have the space and the climate you could try planting some next Spring.
I can only lose weight on the Atkins diet - and I have tried all the others.

Well, Christmas and New Year have come and gone, I've eaten the food, drunk the wine and beer and now, I'm still 13 kilo down ! I was 113kg in early November, now I'm 100kg and I want to reach 80kg if possible. I still use the fat-burning soup diet, though I've changed the sort of soups I'm making. I now make my own lentil-bacon broth/without the bacon ! and a fatless sort of creole/okra gumbo soup (no roux !). I relax slightly one day a week and permit myself a wee ration of flat bread or fat-free American Cheddar (which is also flavour-free !).
I had 4 pairs of trousers made at the start of November and now I can take them off and put them on without undoing anything. I can also take them off without undoing the leather belt (which is at the tighest notch !). I now have to deliberately try and push my stomach out to keep my trousers up. True ! At home I pulled my stomach in and the fastened trousers and belt fell down ! Time for the tailor again !

Oy p'toi !!
You've heard of cold turkey ? Well I had cold chapati last week !
After many weeks being as good as gold with my rather monastic diet, on Wednesday night I had a desperate urge for a good old ruby murray. I asked my kids if they wanted to go to Woodlands Indian restaurant (a mainly South Indian/Chettinad place about 30kms away) but they didn’t want to get ready and sit in, so they asked for a take-away. So I jumped in the car and roared off down the road through town to Woodlands. There are various other Indian non-vegetarian restos nearer, but they aren’t as good as Woodlands (The two best are Woodlands and Mumtaz Mahal, owned by the same company). Ordered up, had a Kingfisher while I waited, got the goods and roared off home.
Ahhhhhhh marvelous !!!! I probably put on a kilo or two but so what – I’ll lose it again this week, back on my diet !
What is your favourite Indian/****/Bangladeshi/Sri Lankan food ?

I like it all! Many years ago, I met up with an American touring group in northern India. I would only eat cooked Indian food, drink only beer and hot tea. I brushed my teeth with bootled water that I ensured the tab was still on the top, when I purchased it. A many a time when they went to 'nice' restaurants, I declined saying I've already eaten. They thought I was really off.
By the end of the tour, everyone of my fellow tourists had been wiped out from food poisoning. Each of them commented they were now impressed on my approach to eating. I too, had learned the hard way in visiting Egypt.
BTW - I agree with your approach in caving into your temptations at times.

Having the day-off was magical. We had fried (yes fried food !) idli, peanut chaat, hot spiced mushrooms, bombay aloo, my daughter had chicken korma (South Indian style), my son had a peppercorn chicken curry, I had a South Indian mutton curry plus pilau and selection of naan and papadum, plus raita.
I’m back on the diet now and have lost another 2 kg since last week. I have stopped wearing work trousers I bought last fall which were falling now off me and am wearing my previous trousers which now have a little room to spare. My stomach doesn’t look like a balloon now and is even a bit flatter. I can even suck it in and also see my ribs again !!! Hello ribs !
