I'm a High School teacher also and feel that society unjustly places sticter regulations and ideas on us because of what we do and with whom we interact. But I am an individual who feels that rules are meant to be bent NOT broken. My kilt wearing in no way prevents or deters from properly performing my job and thank goodness I work with administrators who see a benefit to showing cultural diversity (wearing a klit).
I do not think anyone here will twist your arm into wearing a kilt more often than you do currently. We only express our own feelings about heritage, culture, and freedom through the wearing of a kilt. Some show these feelings more often, some less. Here is to the simple fact that you wear a kilt when playing the pipes. Good for you as I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.
BTW we have a sponsor/advertiser here on XMTS that makes kilts WITH pockets if you are son inclined.

I also am a piper. I wear a band kit at gigs, but when I'm out at social events I tend to use my clan tartan. I can't say I use my kilt more than once a week outside, but it is a way of expressing my heritage.

Some in my band will change before and after the gig. Some may even change because they feel uncomfortalbe/insecure when walking alone in a kilt.

For me it's natural to wear a kilt, but I only do it on special occations. You also show the world that you have a lot of selfesteem by wearing it. So get comfortalbe with it, and get a good sporran that will take all your rubbish. I actually feel that a sporran is more comfortable to wear than jeans with a lot of things in my pockets. (my humble oppinion)
