As I am now married for the second time I no longer date at all, unless it is date night with my lovely spouse.
Back when I was single I did date frequently but almost exclusively humans, usually women, but the occasional farm animal on special occasions. Drinking heavily does somewhat alter your standards. But hay (no pun intended) I was young and wild and ahving a good time.
Sorry, cannot help with your dilemma about old sporrans and kilts, but look forward to you posting your eventual findings.

I won't be able to help with the sporrans, but being having access to a lab, send some of the stains on the underapron do and I'll do DNA test.

Anyone capable of making my link work as a photo and then capable of making it clear to me how you did it will have a star in their crown. I am just grateful to be able to give you a link- and to have had my picture made with my lovely friend...

What I did was to right click on the photo so that I could copy down the properties, then I used the following code without the spaces:
[ IMG ] http://lh5.ggpht.com/ _DjGhDjHjnp4/SygSnrrCcLI/AAAAAAAAAKk/ _Vq8e_thB0w/s512/09tball%20couple.jpg [/IMG]
What you need to show photos on the site is the IMG code and the square brackets.

One of the sporrans arrived yesterday and it's fab! It's certainly old and does indeed have a sheet metal cantle. What was missing was the badge, fortunately I had an old Highland Light Infantry badge so I put that on, I had a relative who was in the HLI who died in France in WWI so that's fitting, shame I didn't have it for Remembrance Sunday/Armistice day the other week but never mind. The kilt arrived the other week actually and certainly looks very old but there are no labels or anything inside, are there any other telltale signs, stitching etc?
MacLowlife, I certainly take your earlier point regarding sellers "bigging up" their products by listing them as vintage, but to be fair I didn't pay through the nose for any of them and would be more than happy with what I paid even if they were just "normal" second hand.
Will post pics shortly.

What is most important
I would say then, that what is most important is that you are happy.
I look forward to seeing your stuff and hearing from somebody who can say how old it may be. Hand stitching is hand stitching and some of the old looms have been running for a LONG time, so it may be tricky, but I expect lining material, buckle structure, etc. MAY give us some clues.
Isn't it nice when things work out? Congratulations on your good luck.
