    If I want a "light", I'll grab a Pacifico.

PLEASE...don't no one even get started on Bud Light...the official beer of the Chicago Cubs.

And as much as I love going to The Cell to see The Sox...Guinness on tap, guys...please?

...and just a tip...when in Chicago and looking for a Draught Guinness...check out Jake's on Clark Street (kiddie-corner from the Duke Of Perth)...I can say no more....

(Interestingly, though, I am told that Jake's has Chicago liquor license number three...the Berghoff has number one and Schaller's Original Pump on South Halsted Street has number two...my son and I are thinking about doing a documentary wherein we and a hand picked group of comrades drink our way through the first ten.)

No Old Style?? The beer that didn't make Milwaukee famous. On the few occasions I've had the chance to hang out in Chicago for a couple of days, having an Old Style or three was just the ticket.

We always have Pacificos in the fridge. After many trips to Baja California Sur, the taste of Pacifico reminds me of serious relaxing--and it's the perfect beer for summer Micheladas!

Old Style isn't Old Style anymore. The brand name got bought up by some conglomerate that makes one (disappointing) beer and cans it under several local labels.

NOW....the trick here is that the original Old Style brewery was left standing and some guys from up there around LaCrosse (God's country if you believe the old Old Style commercials) got in there and are now brewing "LaCrosse Lager"...which is, to all intents and purposes, original formula Old Style and Krausened like a bad, bad doggie in the traditional Old Style way.

The bummer is that I haven't had a chance to score some...I drove through LaCrosse a couple of years ago and went right past the brewery and they had GIFT SHOP! We were in a hurry to get home and there wasn't any room in the car for a couple of cases...HOW can that happen...it just ain't right...so I had to sail on and hope that I'd be able to return someday.

    Jack Daw,
For some of us the math is easy, keeping it accurate is the more difficult aspect.

I live a short MBTA (public transit) ride from twenty-two brew pubs. I could have a different brew every night of the week if add in the different brews of Boston Beer Works (Sam Adams).

You've obviously not had the pleasure of downing a few pints of the stuff in Ireland.... Guinness across the pond is an entirely different drinking experience that far surpasses the taste of what we get in the states

That was the reason that I mentioned Jake's earlier in the thread...most people who have tasted both sides of the pond are of the opinion that, for whatever reason, the Guinness at Jakes tastes like "over there" rather than "over here". How that can be is a mystery to all of us.

    Miller/Bud/Coors lite/light = Sex in a canoe

I drank a lot of Old Style when I was in High School. Other than Pabst, it was the most popular beer you could get in bars. Before you ask, when I was young, age was not the criteria for drinking in the middle of nowhere. If you could see over the bar, you would get served.

Looking back, it was not that good! And "fully krausened" ranks right up there with "triple hopped"! Nothing but marketing. All beer has a krausen stage. Any smart brewer would not move the beer to a bright tank until the krausen falls.

Oh, I use the term facetiously...when one had consumed one more can of Old Style than he maybe should have, the comment was, "Okay...he's fully krausened! Shut him off."

Anybody remember Hamm's? This stuff was soooooo bad that we rewrote the jingle from their commercials...not that anyone remembers the tune but the verse still holds up. Their tag line was:

    A beer is a beer until you've tasted Hamm's

(They HAD to know that they were setting themselves up, right?)

    The original:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyWm8USVRoU

...doesn't a sea captain with a guitar sit at the end of the bar at you local?

I drink beer on the corner
I drink beer on the tracks
I even snuck a can or two
    Behind my old man's back
    I drink it warm
    I drink it cold
I drink it whenever I can
But a beer is a beer is a beer is a beer
    Until you've tasted Hamm's

...cause after you've tasted Hamm's, they all move up a notch.
