It does remind me of when, many years ago, my sister moved to a rural farming region of Arizona and noticed that all of the women and girls in the area wore skirts or dresses. She caused quite a stir by wearing blue jeans. She was taken aside and informed that females in pants was not acceptable. She informed them that she would dress as she pleased.
