P.C. Jacket and Vest Sizing

I need some input here. I want to purchase a Prince Charlie jacket and vest. Unfortunately, there are no shops in my area to try on a particular size. I hate doing things via the internet, but might have to.

I've read on several merchants' sites that most PC's are cut narrow and one should go up one size. Say I'm a 42R, then I should go up to 44R !???? I'm sure not all manufacturers are the same, but are they close to true size? Any information would be MORE than welcome HELP!!!!

Well, I found an Argyle jacket on ebay that was a 42 and I'm a 42 but it would probably fit a 40 better. On the other hand, I then ordered an Argyle and vest from J. Higgins and it's a 42 and fits very nicely. I've always heard that if you're ordering from the UK, go a size up...I'm not sure how J. Higgins reconciles that...if their stuff is made here or what...but that was my experience.

And I have to remember to put that original 42 back out on ebay one of these days...

I agree, if your ordering from the UK, go up a size. It has worked for me for the three jackets that I bought. (If you order your US size, you might make it on the jacket, but the vest will definately be too small.)

Thanks! I'm pretty sure J. Higgins' stuff is made here, by them, in Kansas. However, in their catalog, they mention that their jackets run a bit small. Does that mean go to a bigger size? Guess I should call them. Hmm!! Go figure!

It never hurts to send your vendor a series of measurements. The more information they have, the less likely they are to complain when you send it back.

...and I'd suggest going to a formal wear shop to be measured. They'll usually do it for free, or for a small charge, and then your measurements are more likely to be accurate.

I would agree one size above your normal is a good rule of thumb, remember that kilt jackets are more tailored than your regular suit jacket. I bought mine at my normal jacket size and ended up replacing the waistcoat with a larger one.

The "tempting price" on the PC jacket is, I think, from the Frugal Corner....Dubois, PA. Does anyone have experience with them, and the PC jacket? I'd love to know. Thanks!
