snow at my house!
It snowed today at my house. There's currently about 6" worth, and more on the way.
The Mrs. and I went for a stroll to see the "Winter Wonderland" while it lasts, and she took a few pics.
Here's the road we live on:
I decided I'd wear my Newsome MacDougall box-pleat that I got for my birthday, along with the Inverness cape that VMac3205 made for me. While I was at it, I put on the Balmoral I bought at a games this summer, a pair of green Army socks, and my hiking boots. The socks were a mistake. Everything else was warm and toasty.
Where I'm standing will, hopefully, be our new house this time next year.
All the wool I'm wearing here kept me plenty warm. The only problem was dry snow blowing in my eyes, and the socks, which are too thin to afford any real defense against the cold.
I like cold-weather kilting. I think I'll do some more of it tomorrow!

We've had about 1/2" here. Nothing like you've got.

Great picture looking up your road (and the ones of you are not too shabby either) but are you at the end of the road, or is that gate into your driveway? When I see roads like that I just want to walk up them to see where they go.

Try those socks with another wool sock on top (if it does not crowd your feet too much). I.e. treat them as sock liners, and see what that does for you.
You never want your feet to be too constricted in the cold, as it can cut down circulation and make them even colder. However two layers of wool is greater than the sum of its parts. Yesterday, I wore a summer-weight wool blend sock as liner, and worsted weight, hand knit merino wool on top. Toasty!

It's hard to see in the picture, but the road turns left, down the hill just beside the gate, then continues in a loop back to the main road. The driveway crossed by the gate is where we hope to build a house this next year.
The Mrs. and I just came back from a walk around the loop. There's now nearly 11 inches of snow.

Ken,
I wore the Army socks as an experiment to see how well they hold up to cold. They don't. And my boots are too tight for two pairs of socks.
The next time I go out kilted in the snow I'll wear some "real" kilt hose, either Lewis or the ones I've made, and my waterproof boots.
