Jock, ah to be a few years younger and single ! The thought of being the centre of attention for a group of cute young Japanese ladies isn't so bad ! I got a date with an American girl from Colorado that way in Edinburgh many moons ago. Didn't wear my kilt on the date though !

I have a cousin who hates wearing kilts. I don't know his reasons for it. He's just not comfortable in them.

I have had a friend of mine wear one of my UK's to our local highland fest and has no interest in a kilt since. It was obvious how nervous he was dispite being surrounded by hundreds of other kilted people. He respects the rest of our group of friends who wear kilts but "it's just not his thing."

Lately, I've been really wanting to get my own kilt and once again kilt up. But I did feel like your friend for a while. It is totally understandable. Some people feel uncomfortable being the centre of attention.
