If it's cool weather where you are, you might offer him a jacket you don't wear, and ask him to find someone who needs it. The someone might turn out to be him, but you won't insult his pride. He would probably appreciate some clean, new socks, as well. I'd say he would appreciate Christmas dinner, too.
