I have long worn tweed jackets (with trousers/jeans - I don't yet have a tweed kilt jacket) for 'everyday casual' wear) and no one seems to consider me remotely overdressed. I wear a sweater with my kilt(s) in cooler weather, and I have a lined leather bomber jacket for when it gets cold - that and a sweater have worked for me, kilted, at -20+C. But a good tweed jacket would be wonderful for simply being out and about in a kilt, as far as I'm concerned.

Like Glen I also will sport a motorcycle leather jacket in casual circumstances.

Instead of a jean jacket I prefer these sort of "varsity" style casual denim and twill ones

However the very best casual covering you can get for your kilt is a British "wooly pulley" camando sweater. They will keep you warm and look great with a kilt. I will see if I can dig up a picture.

    Cheers

    Excellent Glen!

These "commando" style sweaters come in V and crew neck styles, several colors, look great with kilts, and I will guarantee they will keep you warm.

    Cheers

Thanks for all the suggestions! It's sending me off to EBay to see what I can find in my size

While I don't have a Barbour jacket, nor a barn jacket (used to when I was a kid) I do have the Peregrine "Londoner" jacket that I love. It's wax and quite warm...

I think I'll go and check the thrift stores to see if I can find an Ike jacket and try it on for looks, but otherwise, this has been helpful - thanks again gentlemen!

I think the Peregrine looks brilliant, I'm sure it will work with the kilt.
