August 2009 at the ripe young age of 58. Won a Sportkilt at a fund raising auction and haven't looked back since. I now own 4 and am always on the look out for the next. Since that first one, except for when I'm at work in a company supplied uniform, I am kilted more often than not (that is if I'm wearing anything ).

At age 50, about 25 years after going to my first highland games. Wanted to get one then but my first wife was not supportive at all. Whole different story with my second wife. In less than 2 years I went from 0 kilts to 4 kilts.

I think the earliest I can remember was about 7 years old. I'm 39 (GULP) now. Although, I went for almost 10 years without putting one on.

I had never worn a kilt before purchasing my 8yrd MacGregor a couple of months ago. Although wearing the kilt is still a somewhat new experience, I am loving every second of it!
Edit; Oh, and to answer the question at hand - I was 24 when I first wrapped my kilt around me, but 25 when I first wore it in public...

I was 6 when I first wore a kilt. It was made by a lady in our village. I remember my mum telling me to run out in front of her so she could see my pleats waggle. I remember at the age of 16 asking a girl who lived close to go with me to a church dance and she said she would on condition that I wore my kilt. Thats when I discovered that it could be a magnet for the ladies I now have 4 kilts and have worn them regularly for all my life.

I wore my first at age 56. I bought it at a Scottish festival and wore it home - driving my 1952 MG. I had displayed the car in the British Car show portion of the festival. As I walked inside the house, I was greeted by my wife and our 14 year old grandson. He remarked "Now, this is different." I've been wearing kilts ever since.

My first kilt was relatively recently at the ripe old age of 23! I decided to wear a kilt to honor my Scottish ancestors on my mothers side (dad's side is English and Welsh.)

How old
If my aged memory serves me correctly I was around 12 or 13 yo. A cousin had given me a cast off (but still great condition) red Fraser, modern kilt. A few years later I joined a pipe band and have been wearing them since. No longer piping, but still kilted.

I bought my first kilt to wear to the 2004 Pleasnaton, CA Highland Games. I was 41.
Then last year I found this site and I have worn them regularly since then.
