The most you have paid/would pay for a kilt?
Hi guys. I'm about to put down a deposit to have a kilt made for £350. It seems like a lot as my others were £200, £120 and £27! I finally decided to make the plunge as it is a beautiful tartan with a very destict meaning to me.
I was wondering how much you guys have, or would pay for a kilt if it was to your exact specifications?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

My first kilt which is a made to measure tank cost me nearly $600 USD five years ago. No telling how much the price has gone up over the years.

My two 17oz/yd teflon coated machine sewn kilts from Houstons of Paisley cost £285 each plus £15 for the kilt pin. Handing over £600 at the one time is the most I've spent on a kilt, but yes that was for 2 kilts and 2 kilt pins, I suppose a few of my other kilts cost a total of around £300 each where I have paid for the fabric and the kilt making separately.

There is no such thing as the perfect kilt - at least - when I make one there is usually some small compromise to be made to get it to the exact measurements required, and to use the fabric there is, when it would have been easier if it had been cut a few inches differently from the bolt.
However - to get a really well made kilt, made to measure in a special tartan -
priceless.

I'm already into the second tier here with the MacBeth tartan I bought, and that's off the remnant page at F&K. I'll probably pay to do a kilt camp sometime to actually make it up, so that will easily double my current investment. I'd consider turning the fabric over to someone else I suppose but I think I'll probably practice a bit more and do it myself.

Well I went for the highest tier. I've not gone that high yet and won't for a while considering the economy but I do have my eye on a leather Rkilt and something from Howie at 21st. Century so I guess eventually I'll get there.
