This morning, 7th January, I went out to de ice the car and unload a knitting machine collected in better weather, in the pitiful little bit of snow that fell yesterday.

The car thermometer said minus four degrees Centigrade, but the sky was clear, there was no wind.

I did put on a jersey, but found that my polycotton kilt and sandals were a match for the cold.

The kilt is a long one of 27 inches rather than my usual 24 inch - but other than that it is made to the standard reverse Kinguisse style using 7 to 8 yards of fabric. I do suspect that the extra length traps quite a bit more warm air, so if the temperature drops further I might have to put on hose, and a hat - maybe even gloves.

However, I suspect that if there had been any amount of wind, then I would have been cold, but in still air I just chilled my fingers scraping the ice.

The air was so dry that there had not been enough moisture in the air for a complete covering, and I felt rather guilty scraping off the rather pretty delicate patterns which had been created on the glass.

I must get on with making my all wool 27 inch kilt and see how warm that is by comparison, as we are being told to expect a prolonged spell of sub zero temperatures.

Turp, glad to see you were able to find that XS size you've been looking for.
