Hope Hamish is feeling in top shape again soon.

Our weather has been in the low 30'sF to high 40'sF. Alternating between rain and fog.

I'm taking the advice to stay inside - even though I know that I can dress warmly enough and have footwear that grips well - plus ski pole type sticks, there is no sense in venturing out when the weather is bad and getting worse.

It isn't the snow that is the problem - we got a miserly little flurry maybe an inch and a half - two inches tops, but the glass smooth ice and the cold temperatures. If the promised winds do arrive then it will feel even colder, plus the sky is overcast now.

It is definitely a stay at home day - though as someone on local radio pointed out - this is the normal weather for this latitude, it is only with the weather normally flowing in off the sea and the air being warmed by the Gulf Stream which gives us the warm wet 'Sou'wester' weather. With the present air-stream from the North East bringing us Continental weather the warmth is pushed South to the Mediterranean.

Storrington, where Hamish lives, being more to the East will have had more snow than here and for longer, but hopefully all necessary supplies are getting through.

Good to hear that Hamish has been contacted.

Here I have been snowed in for three days, they never grit or salt where I live and being on a hill there is no way I can move the car so it's walk (or slither) down to the shops.

    Can't wait for the thaw!

It was -12 C (about 10 F) in Northumberland overnight, though it's back up to -5 C (23 F) just now. As District (visiting) Nurses, we've been driving around in pairs this week as none of us have a 4X4. Most days one of us has to be dug out of snowdrifts...

Glad to hear Hammy's cutting the mustard!

Slainte - there's a dram of Talisker with my name on it waiting for me when I get home, that's for sure!

Oh dear! It seems that Ingemar's mention of my name has started a flurry of concern - for which I am most appreciative, but please do not worry, my friends. For several weeks I have been experiencing 'complications' and 'discomfort' which I put down to a passing phase (or old age!) Immediately before Christmas I saw my Dr. who thoroughly examined me and considered that I should be referred to a specialist - I am still awaiting the appointment. Now we have the extreme (for us) weather with sub-zero temperatures and, at the last check, 7" level snow (with more just starting to fall). I've not been able to get the car out of the garage since Tuesday evening and, in any case, our local roads are now ice-bound so I doubt I'd get to the hospital anyway! Guess I might have to be patient until this lot thaws. There is no way I could walk as far as the village shops snow or no snow, but fortunately I have stocks of food, etc to see me through to next week so I should be fine for the time being.

Very many thanks for your concern, but I'll be OK.

    Take care,
    Ham.
