    A question

I just posted my Irish Grandmother's recipe for Dandelion wine in "The Pub". It was copied from an old hand written notebook that my son found in my Grandmother's old house. She passed away in 1990, and I inherited the house when my Uncle died in 2004. My son lives there now.
The notebook contains over 50 recipes, dating from the 1920s to the 1950s. Most are handwritten by my grandmother, but some are old newspaper recipes from the same date range. I have given some thought to maybe having them published, but I have no idea how to go about it, or any of the legalities since some are old news articles and I don't really know where she might have gotten the hand written ones. Does anyone have any information sources as to how to proceed?

I'm not a legal expert, by any means, but there is an expiration date for copywrite protection. I believe it's about fifty years, though in some novels I'm surprised to see that the authors' estates seem to prolong it to nearly a century.

Generally speaking recipes fall into the public domain-- no one has a patent or copyright on cooking. I'd suggest you drop in to your local public library and check out a copy of The Writer's Guide for the details of finding a publisher.

Your other option is a website called Tastebook My wife uses it for her own recipes and it allows you to publish your own recipes in your own cookbook without trying to find a publisher.

There are also many companies that specialize in publishing cookbooks for fundraising purposes. Many of those church/school/social group cookbooks you see for sale come from this type of service. I used to have info from one company but I'm sure a Google search would turn them up. Not saying it's the best way, just one possibility. The online version would surely be less expensive if all you want to do is share it with family/friends.

Having seen your other thread with the scan of original, it would be charming to include some of those along with notations bringing them up to date (such as wine yeast vs. bread yeast).

Edit: For instance, here's one that seems to get positive reviews: http://www.heritagecookbook.com/ Just an example, mind, I have no experience with them but they were not at the top of the Google search (which is sometimes a good thing LOL)
