methinks maybe Raphael is responding to the whole "Freedom Fries" and other nonsense that was about the past few years...

Personally, I agree that a "Freedom" kilt ought to be more vibrant...but on the whole, not bad looking...

you are correct. The usage of the word 'Freedom' sounds very unimaginative to me and
I simply hate it. I also feel like people are simply jumping on a bandwagon to market their clothes. I just can't take that word seriously anymore.

I am fully aware that the Freedom tartan is mainly (although not exclusively) a Gold Bros. item and this thread is not here to discuss their business practices. You are allowed to dislike this tartan because of its purveyor, but let's not go into that too much... If this thread veers in that direction, I'm sure the mods will be watching closely and put the kibosh on it. Thank you for your kind understanding in this regard.

I'd not heard of this but then again there are so many new trade setts. I certainly wouldn't wear it. More to the point, this tartan is not new and has existed under another name since at least 2005. Freedom from what has already been asked - certainly not from being worn as something else!

I OWN this tartan. I LOVE it. As a lady, I love the colors, but also, my son is in the Army. It is VERY similar to the United States Army. I am not authorized to wear that one, so this one is as close as I get. People always comment on my tartan and how much they like it.

I prefer this to support my son and my nation instead of a clan.
I will be getting your flashes with purple stockings to match too.
I just returned from the San Diego Scottish Highland games and one of the representatives in the Buchanan booth, who basically told me the the man who sold it to me lied about the name of the tartan. I am going to print this out and give it to him next year. SO THERE!

A very nice tartan. However, is does look similar to many "hunting" tartans. As nice as it is, it is not my cup-o-tea.

Well, I am entitled to wear MacFarland, Buchanan and a few others and I don't like any of them...So, I am happy to have this one.
It's great that there are some that everyone likes that they are entitled to wear.

Not a fan of this tartan as it is used in VERY cheap kilts from tourist shops and online traders. All the ones I have seen look just that cheap and often don't look good after a few wearings. So can't get this out of my mind.
If it was a good full 8yard tank...maybe but I would still think of the tourist tat!
